Larry Polnicky has been creating innovative solutions for supporting the IDD population since 2003. He is also the father of Ben, a young adult with non-verbal autism. He has designed and developed software systems and tools used by many clients, ranging from small private providers to entire states. He also owned and operated a center that helps children struggling with ADHD, Learning Disability, and autism, using neuroeducational techniques and methods that take advantage of the brain’s neuroplasticity.
My Story
When I started building IDD applications in 2003, I had little knowledge of the IDD population or the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. That all changed in 2004 when my own son was born, and it became apparent that he had non-verbal autism.
Over the next 2 decades, my knowledge, experience and expertise grew dramatically, both personally and professionally.
During that time, we have designed, built and maintained numerous systems aimed at helping the IDD population on one way or another, including tools for case management, risk screening, assessment and evaluation, training, and many others. Many of these systems had a lifespan of 15 years or more and are still in use today by small providers and/or large state DD divisions.
Each project improves on the last. All of the specific knowledge gained is being carried forward to produce the best, most user-friendly and informative system we can design.
We believe DATA is the key to managing anything. This is obviously true in the hard sciences, but even in the soft sciences or anywhere else where outcomes matter, you must be able to measure those outcomes and the inputs that are intended to improve outcomes. The goal is always improved lives.
All projects in which IDD Innovations has been involved are at their core DATA systems. Forms, surveys and questionnaires have their use, but it is really the data gathered that tells the story. And once that story can be clearly read, programs can be initiated to drive the story to a better outcome.
This is the philosophy that permeates our work. It will never change.
